blackfriday

Black Friday was so fun with these two girls :) My shopping consciences and my piercing supports. I'm glad I stayed for Thanksgiving :) I feel so much better getting this much rest and free time, and hanging out with awesome awesome friends.

Nov. 26th, 2009

thank you on thanksgiving

I am loving on this thanksgiving. :)

Loving this wonderful break from school, the peace, the quiet, the good friends to hang out with, the single room, the face that I can play my music however loud I want, and I can wake up anytime I please, mmm :)

breakfast on Wednesday morning with Shihao and Bern at CTB :)
Love this simple concept of bagels and everything else. and their massive chalk wall menu.
and their bagel sandwiches, of course.

thanksgiving dinner at Suhaila's place on Tuesday night! :) wonderful wonderful turkey, gravy, potatoes, grilled veggies, and the most amazingggg dessserts ever! Thank you, Su!

Day trip to Wegmans with Susie, Gina, Jon, James and Jim (haha omg triple J!) I love wegmans, I cannot get enough of that wonderful food haven. And check out the massive tub of ice cream in Jim's hands, only $6 baybehh. We bought everything we needed for a nice thanksgiving dinner! FROZEN TURKEY and all. and also some supplies to help us tide over this week
then we went to Five Guys and a Burger to eat some cheap ass delicous juicy burgers. Simple concept, just burgers with generous toppings and fries. Definitely worth going if you are around the area.

then it was baking banana bread with Jame's bruised bananas in Balch! :) haha and some girly magazine time in Gina's massive room. and then some nutella and haagan daaz.
and I finally watched mythbusters! DUUDE haha I haven't watched TV in so long, ever since I came actually!
we caught a really gross episode of mythbusters. I am not going diving.

Happy Thanksgiving Ya'll. Thanksgiving Lunch at RPCC with Jon and Susie, and some wonderfully decorated CUPCAKES! :)
I have come to a conclusion, I love cranberry sauce.
then it was off to Pastor Paul's place for another lunch with the FICC-ers. Pastor Paul's house is so nice and cosy, really american homey feel with a fire place and all. Delicious food (i honestly do love thanksgiving food) and some really good company. Then we took a walk around his house and to the gorge near his place, and skipped stones across the water. it was so picturesque, something i'd only see in the movies. Orange leaves scattered all across the ground, big grand trees, a waterfall to your left, a massive stone gorge wall to the front, and streams of water all around you.
Then it was back to his house for pie and desserts. I love how I spent this thanksgiving. Good friends and good food. :)

Notable things that I have done the past few weeks:
1) Attempted to catch the Leonids meteor shower at 4am in the morning at the Appel Football Fields. Found myself freezing my limbs off with a whole bunch of other freshmen, and only managed to catch a brief glimpse of a shooting star. (So not worth it)
2) Stayed over at Bern's place on a Sunday night after an amazing homecooked asian dinner with Vic, SH, Bern and David and 5 bottles of wine (because Vic is an wine-o-holic like that). Slept for 6 hours on their comfy couch and headed to class with SH the next morning
3) Had dinner at Cafe Pacific! :) Finally. And lusted after the desserts which I was too full to eat.
4) Worked on Saturday and found out how much butter and how many eggs goes into the waffles that I so love to indulge in
5) Had Sunday Brunch at Banfis (and ate the waffles from the batter that I made the day before) with both Jons and Shirley. Love love love Sunday brunches!
6) Had dinner at Alice Cook House with Chui and Ruth on Sunday night! :) They have the most amazing salad bar ever! (almost comparable to Terrace!)
7) Skyped with Liz and Eve! (and that made me even more excited about going home!)
8) Bought two tubs of haagan daaz ice cream for $5! (Yes for both! Believe it! There is no way that I am ever going to pay $4 for a scoop of haagan daaz back in Singapore)
9) Had my usual Thursday breakfasts with Shu and Shanna :)
10) Surived the past 2 weeks of hell

Almost almost almost there.
I can almost smell the smokey bbq hawker smell of chomp chomp.
Almost Thanksgiving! :) Can't wait for the next 3 days to pass.

it's a warm and sunny day! and as always, when the weather is good, I am stuck inside studying :(
Also because I did no work this weekend, whatsoever. it's been an amazing break though :). So Friday I headed over to Bern's place and we had amazing cheese and crackers and some wine and brownies Mmmm. I cannot wait to have my own apartment! and we had a failed trip to williard straight hall for the Battle of the Late Night Foods, because there was NO food when we got there!

At least I got a lift back home! Thank you, Koh Shi Hao.

Woke up at 730am for work and I spent a good 4 hours with veggies veggies veggies! Cutting chopping peeling dicing grilling. And I got to make french toast as well! Mmm :) For the footballers pre-game breakfast buffet. DUDES THEY EAT SO MUCH. We made like 6 trays worth of fattening french toast. I think the worst thing about working in the kitchen is actually seeing everything that goes into the food. It takes away all the joy from eating. Then it was a rush to help prep for Globalize 09 all the way til the event ended at 8.30! Shihao and I raided Barton Hall for some amazing free food, I was literally completely estatic! I found the treasure trove of ben and jerrys and drank 3 cups of apple cider and then ate some cheese and cinammon donuts. SO GOOD all this free food. Love Cornell like that :)

And then I spent the night talking to Chang Ha Kim (I love saying full names like that!). So yes, I basically did, NO WORK THIS WEEKEND. Which leaves me stuck in the library on this wonderful Sunday afternoon.
:( Boo that.

okay, incoming hell week.
Seriously HELL WEEK.
3 projects in the pipeline, one monster of an Italian exam this Friday, one Italian essay due on Tuesday and then some.
which me luck, everyone.

christmas comes early.

so besides the fact that its terribly cold here, it kinda does feel like christmas is descending upon us. So, of course, what else do you do when Christmas comes. You shop. :)

Purchase #1
These were desperately needed, both the flats and the boots. and No, they are not uggs. I refuse to buy into the whole UGGS craze for the simple fact that it is too damn expensive. They are admittedly very comfortable and very warm, but I think my cheaper fake versions will do me fine :)

american eagle! and everything was on sale, mind you. I refuse to buy things that are nett price here because it all goes on sale eventually. and they slash the prices like crazy! These 3 tops only cost me $20! :)

some stuff from UO at the commons! i have more in my bag, but i will not reveal because they are christmas presents! So Suzie, Joan GHina and I hopped on the bus right after our last lecture and headed off campus for for some, non-school related activities. I think I might die living in ithaca, i mean, if it was for more than 4 years. There is really nothing much to do here. I mean, i can appreciate the peacefulness and all, but now its cold and dark all the time. Poo-ey..

I am so excited with my new purchases :) And as usual, I did not buy anything for the cold cold ithacan winter. DAMNIT. gah.
Im going to wait til black friday and hopefully, go nuts at some store or some mall or some outlet.
mm. i hope.

why hello there

okay i want weather in ithaca to be just the right temperature so I can layer like this!!!

FINALLY FRIDAY! haha I shall coin a new term
Finally Freaking Fantastic Friday

woohoo. I have my italian class soon, then the boring lectures at the Statler and then it's FREEDOM and shopping with Susie and woohooo all is well again!

I've been browsing through different people's livejournals and I wish I could take all the good parts from everyone's life and piece together to form my perfect, ideal, utopian world. I also came across Shaloms little post on "The Great Gatsby" and it just made me miss JC so much! I love that books to bits, not just for the content or the story or the wonder of Gatsby and how I wish someone like that existed in reality, someone with that much hope, with a dream almost completely uncorruptable because of his sheer belief in it. but also because I miss a12 like shizzles5172yhawhsdnaskdfqh902u31j!!! and I just want to go back to Literature classes in the T block with you guys, goofing around in lectures, having our own little games across the lecture halls and swooning over the wonder that is Gatsby and bitching about Daisy.

poooo.

Well, it's almost the end of yet another hell week. With the hell-iest coming up in a few days. I hate group projects, or just the fact that we have like 3 group projects all happening simultaneously!

I have a business computing prelim in about 4 hours, wish me luck guys! So not my forte, unfortunately.

Mmmm. Also realised that, i've been searching in all the wrong places for something to fill that God-shaped hole.
All. The. Wrong. Places.
or maybe i havent been searching at all.

Nov. 7th, 2009

you make my dreams come true!

So I finally caught 500 days of summer at the Cornell Cinema last night with Alvin Bern Vic Jon and Jackie! 5 whole months of waiting, and I finally got to catch this show that everyone has been raving about. I loved it, everything about it, from Zooey Deschanel to Joseph Gordon Levitt, to Summers vintage clothes and her bike, to the random breakouts in dance, and the sky blue everything, to the screenshots and the change in seasons, to the soundtrack. Loved it.

I could definitely watch this show just about a million more times.
I wish my life were a movie sometimes. well, not exactly like this one, just maybe the good parts of it. Especially being able to own her clothes, or have her eyes, and her awesomeness. Mmmm maybe I would just really like to be Zooey Deschanel.

Here we go again

And once again, it;s the start of yet another week.
Daylight savings has also begun, which means yesterday, when I wanted to go to bed at 2am, i actually ended up going to bed at 1am. I went to brush my teeth, came back and saw that we had jumped an hour back (oh my trusty automatic clocks on my laptop)
which also means, the sun freaking sets at 4.30pm! It's so depressing. Usually, my day ends when the sun sets. Now I have to readjust myself and my brain and get used to this whole sun-setting before dinner thing. Way before dinner.

Honestly, Ithaca is driving me crazy. This never-ending mass of assignments, this whole getting dark way before it's supposed to, this sucky monday schedule, this nothing to do besides ithaca mall, this everything is too damn expensive but you still spend anyway, THIS is getting to me. LIKE. SEEEERRRIIIOUSLYY.

ARR happy halloween matie

haha yes i was a pirate for halloween, spent a total of $2 on my costume! :) so proud of myself and my wardrobe, all i needed to actually purchase was a hook. I refuse to buy into this whole commercial make-money halloween crap. There is no way I am paying $40 for something that barely covers my butt,or chest, or stomach. Rephrase, I am not paying $40 for crazy coloured satin-ish 'underwear'.
Twas fun though, headed to a frat with Bryan and Vishal. Boy oh boy did they have some kick-ass music :)
but that is not going to keep me going back every weekend. Fo sho, no. I think I have better things to do with my time than spending it drinking bitter water (ew ew ew down with keystone light) and getting beer spilled on me, watching american teenagers getting it on on the dancefloor, on a nice weekend night. Occasionally I'd be itching to dance, but other than that, mehh..

I am now at Bernice's apartment in Collegetown :) Woohoo to an amazing view, i see the lights from the commons all the way from here I love this. I love the huge window, and the quiet, and the fact that I made my own dinner and it was asian :)

I had a nice lunch at Carriage House Cafe with Chang this afternoon and that just made my day. I had a smoked salmon sandwich with amazing wholegrained bread! and we shared french toast stuffed with bree, oo heaven. I love this whole cheese and french toast combination, definitely going to try that out myself soon. I love talking to Chang, he gives me such wierd and strange insights and I love arguing with him about things! I used to just like give in and let him give me that smug self-satisfied smile of his but i am getting the hang of this and I am getting better and smarter and woohoo, he actually said "yeah you're right" today and "fine, i agree" (after much hesitation but still..)
:) <== thats my smug smile hoho.

happy happy weekend. Thank you my favourite people from lambrou apartments :)

some photos from my handphone. (Times like these I always wish I had brought out my DSLR or had a point and shoot handy camera)
The image quality just doesn't do justice to the food, it barely looks appetising in these photos. My french toasts were stuffed with fresh ricotta cheese and berry jam, amazing combination btw, sprinkled with icing sugar and doused in maple syrup.
Had an amazing brunch at Cafe Dewitt with Bernice, Shihao and Victoria on Sunday. :) I love Sunday brunches, it makes my weekend.
and the three of them know so many good places to go around Ithaca!

and then we made a trip to Purity Ice cream, supposedly the birth place of THE SUNDAE. So they claim.
whatever it is, they make pretty damn good ice cream and killer sundaes. If it weren't so cold in Ithaca, I'd prob have a scoop of ice cream here everyday, dairy products are just so damn cheap here!
But it works out I guess, would not need to worry about that extra excessive weight.

So the start of a new school week also marked the start of a new SICKNESS. UGH.
Not this why. WHY this week. I have so many assignments due Monday!
Right now, I wish I were home because my mommy would make me a whole big fat pot of barley and I would be in my own room alone and would be able to fall asleep at any time I wanted to, wake up anytime I wanted to, have someone cook for me when I get hungry, and still be able to get some work done.

This. Is. Too. Much.

10 things I hate about you

I hate the way you talk to me, and the way you cut your hair.
I hate the way you drive my car, I hate it when you stare.
I hate your big, dumb combat boots and the way you read my mind.
I hate you so much it makes me sick — It even makes me rhyme.
I hate the way you're always right. I hate it when you lie.
I hate it when you make me laugh — Even worse when you make me cry.
I hate it that you're not around. And the fact that you didn't call.
But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you — Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.

Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life.. You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at your, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like "maybe we should just be friends" turns it into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a s oul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love. -Neil Gaimon

Patrick: So what's your excuse?
Kat: For?
Patrick: Acting the way you do.
Kat: I don't like to do what people expect. Why should I live up to other people's expectations instead  of my own?
Patrick: So you disappoint them from the start and then you're covered, right?
Kat: Something like that…
Patrick: Then you screwed up.
Kat: How?
Patrick: You never disappointed me.

This show never fails to get at me. Something about it. Something about Heath Ledger and Cameron, so real yet so unbelievably not. I wish stereotypes like them existed sometimes. I wish relationships blossomed like that, (blossomed may not be the most approriate word for this actually but..) I wish I were like Kat, queer, 100% myself, 100% guarded and stubborn, and have someone break me down piece by piece, relentlessly, chipping away the bits to dig underneath, to make me feel something new.

So the weekend is here, yet again. I'm all smiles for now, come tomorrow night that might be a different story though. I hate the tipover from Saturday to Sunday, it's like the tipover from Wednesday (midweek) to Thursday (almost the weekend).
There's just something about it, when the clock strikes twelve something in me dies or comes alive.

Yesterday's Mojito party at bernice's place was really fun :) I cannot wait to have my own apartment, my own personal space where I can throw my own dinner parties and gatherings and do whatever the heck I want. I never realised how important it was to have that barrier sometimes, between personal life and everything else; everyone needs space sometimes. I can't remember the last time I just lay in bed and did nothing, just blasted my music and drifted off into random thoughts and write letters and read.

So goodmorning, it's a wet, dreary Saturday and I am staying indoors to start on 1165 Managerial Communication, this assignment is worth 15% of my grade! (ugh mounting pressure).
And I will also plan out my schedule for next semester, soon. I want to take so many classes, I love how big Cornell is and how diverse they want your education to be. I love my electives, and I wish we had more credits for electives! Can't wait til sophomore year, when I am done with all these level 1 classes and can move up the ranks and take something actually truly interesting and useful.

Oh! I also started my first shift at the Statler Banquet kitchen this Thursdday, 3pm (right after Italian) all the way til 10pm. I loved every single moment of it. From cutting up fruits and dicing up veggies, to walking into the dairy storage and looking at all the huge chunks of cheese on the racks, to the dry storage with tonnes and tonnes of ingredients and everything you could imagine having as a chef and having it all within your reach; you'd be able to back anything anytime at your own fancy. Just the sheer amount of things in the kitchen! and the stainless steal pots and pans and counters, to the rack of knives, to the 15 stoves and deep fryer. Ahh everything.
Love being in the kitchen.
can't wait til my next shift!

But for now, it's work work work time!

so purdy!

lookbook )

I love the new set of lookbook looks. I wish Fall would stay forever. I love the whole layering, sweaters, piling on the accessories, the beanies and hats, the scarves, boots. Everything.
I want a knitted sweater, a big fat comfy one to wear in and out.
But Ithaca winter has no mercy for people in knitted sweaters.
we need, thermal wear, wind and water proof jackets, puff puff puff. Gloves, earmuffs, hoods.
UGHHH

Cornell would be warm enough so that I would be able to dress up properly without having to throw a thick coat and scarves over everything I wear.
